Martine Carbonneau is a Clinical Support
Specialist in the Health Management Services department at ESI Canada.
Her responsibilities include review of new drugs, evaluation of pipeline
drugs, assessment of drug cost impact, formulary development and update.
She is also involved in the assessment and reporting of drug trends and
contributing to ESI Canada publications. She is the main clinical resource
for our Montréal office.
A pharmacist by training, Martine holds a bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy
from the Université de Montréal. She also completed a master’s
degree in Drug Development at the same university. This program allowed
her to gain extensive knowledge of the different phases in the development
of new drugs, before and after their arrival on the market.
Martine maintains her pharmacy license as a member in good standing of
the Ordre des Pharmaciens du Québec. Before joining ESI Canada,
she held the position of Medical Research Associate at Schering Canada,
a pharmaceutical company, and also has experience in community pharmacy.
Ellen Chin joined ESI Canada as a Clinical Services
Pharmacist in October 1998, and is currently the Director, Operations
for ESRx Essential Research, the consulting division of ESI Canada. Her
responsibility is to manage the division’s consulting functions,
which include analyzing market trends, drug budget impact forecasting,
coordinating private payer product submissions, educational events, and
electronic drug programs, and product design and development.
Prior to joining ESI Canada, Ellen held a position as Staff Pharmacist
in a variety of retail pharmacy environments. These settings included
a small independent store, pharmacy chain, hospital out-patient pharmacy,
and medical center pharmacy.
Through her studies at the University of Toronto, Ellen holds a B.Sc.Phm.,
a residency certificate for completing the Pharmaceutical Industrial Pharmacy
Residency Program as well as a post graduate level course in Pharmacoeconomics.
She is currently pursuing her Masters of Business Administration at York
University’s Schulich School of Business.
John Elliott began his career 14 years ago in sales
with Nordic Laboratories. He has since progressed through positions of
increasing responsibility in Sales, Professional Education, Private Healthcare,
and most recently as Manager, External Affairs with Aventis Pharma.
John is the project manager for the Canadian Council on Integrated Healthcare,
an independent health policy think tank, and has been part of the Aventis
Healthcare Survey since 1998. He is also a member of the Group Insurance
Pharmaceutical Committee and a member of the Rx&D Ontario Regional
Committee.
Linda Hughes joined ESI Canada in May of 1996. In her
capacity as Director of Customer Services, Linda’s responsibilities
include developing and executing the client services strategies for ESI
Canada products and services. Under her direction, members of her staff
provide service to and work with the distribution systems of our carrier/partners.
Education and communication of ESI Canada products and services to the
producer community is also a focal point of her responsibilities.
Linda’s previous experience includes 23 years’ experience
in group insurance with The Prudential. She held several positions covering
a wide range of duties, including premium accounting, claim administration,
customer service, marketing, and sales. She was Manager of Group National
Accounts and was responsible for sales and service to large, technically
demanding (flexible benefits, unique service requirements) group customers.
Mary Johannesson, FLMI, HIA, has been Director of Marketing
at ESI Canada since January 2001. Mary is responsible for the development
and execution of ESI Canada's marketing strategy and communication plans.
Mary leads the Marketing Department to ensure that customer and marketplace
needs are met by measuring the ongoing performance and competitiveness
of the company's products and services. In conjunction with ESI Canada's
customers, Mary develops customized programs and product strategies. Mary
also takes an active role in providing sales support.
Mary's career in group benefits over the past 17 years has spanned virtually
all aspects of the group benefits business, from medical underwriting,
to administration, to claims technical support. She has also been a key
player in strategic projects like business re-engineering, corporate integration
and major system implementations. In her product management role, Mary
has been instrumental in launching new ideas such as workplace marketing
and a small business benefit portfolio.
Mary also serves on the FLMI Society of Toronto’s Board as Membership
Director. She was previously on the LIIC Group Administration Executive
Committee, having served as Vice Chair and Secretary.
Jean Joubert is President of ESI Canada and has overall
responsibility for the Canadian operations of Express Scripts, Inc.
Mr. Joubert came to Express Scripts Inc. from London Life where he was
the Senior Vice- President of Group Operations. Prior to London Life’s
acquisition of The Prudential, Mr. Joubert served as Prudential’s
Senior Vice-President of Group Operations.
Upon graduation from the University of Montréal, Mr. Joubert began
his career at Alliance Mutual Life, progressing through several positions
in the group life and health and pension areas. Following this, he became
an employee benefits consultant. He joined W. M. Mercer in 1980, and later
became principal in their Montreal office. Mr. Joubert joined The Prudential
in 1988 as Vice-President, Regional Group Operations for Quebec and the
Atlantic Provinces and was appointed Senior Vice-President in 1991. Well
known in the employee benefits marketplace, Mr. Joubert is a previous
guest speaker of the International Foundation of Employee Benefits. He
has also been a guest speaker of the Canadian Pension Conference, the
Insurance Consumer Affair Exchange and LIMRA. He served as Vice-Chairman
of the CLHIA Group Committee.
During his course at Prudential, Mr. Joubert served on the board of the
Prudential family of mutual funds (now MAXXUM), PAGIC (Prudential’s
property and casualty insurance company), and OTIP/RAEO Insurance. He
also served as Chairman of Eclipse Claims Services, Health System Group
Inc., and PVS Inc.
Mr. Joubert is also Governor of the Montréal Country Club where
he served one term as President.
Sukaina Moledina is currently the managed care resident
at ESI Canada. Thus far the program has given her an introduction to the
areas of clinical services, customer services, drug information, formulary
management, health technologies database, and professional relations.
Through this program, Sukaina has gained a deeper knowledge of the health
benefit management industry.
A pharmacist by profession, Sukaina received her Bachelors of Science
degree in Pharmacy with distinction from the University of Alberta in
Edmonton.
In addition she has experience in community, hospital, and industrial
pharmacy. Sukaina currently holds an active pharmacy licence in both Alberta
and Ontario. She practices part- time as a community pharmacist. She is
also an active member of the Ontario Pharmacy Residents’ Association.
Danny Peak began his career with Merrell Dow as a sales
representative in 1989, just after graduating with a business degree from
Sherbrooke University. In the next 9 years, he worked in different sales
positions until he joined Hoechst Marion Roussel in 1999 in the department
of External Affairs and Public Relations. With a national mandate in mind,
he was responsible for market access and strategic planning. Three years
later, in early 2002, he was given responsibility for the province of Quebec
as Manager of External Affairs under the new Aventis Pharma organization
in Canada.
Sylvie Raymond joined ESI Canada in March 2002. She
has been responsible for putting in place a Customer Services team in
the new Montreal office, developing the team’s orientation and implementing
a continuous improvement process. Members of her team provide daily support
to our clients and also act as consultants on issues relevant to our book
of business. Her team has taken up many important challenges such as drug
plan conversions and is currently working on implementing dental benefit
management, while maintaining quality service at all times.
Sylvie has more than 17 years of experience in the individual and group
insurance industry. Over the years, she has worked for different insurance
companies in the customer services area. She started as an administration
and accounting representative for national accounts, then became a service
representative and finally, manager of customer services, a position she
has held for several years.
Dr. Steven A. Semelman joined ESI Canada as Manager,
Clinical Services in November 1996. In July 1998, he became Director,
Health Management Services and in December 1999, he was appointed President
of ESRx Essential Research, the consultative division of ESI Canada. In
July 2000, Dr. SemeIman was named Vice President for all Health Management
Services operations in the company. His responsibilities include developing,
implementing, and coordinating clinical pharmacy and dental services and
health outcome-based drug therapy programs, including pharmaco-economic
and budget impact analyses, drug and dental plan management, and research
activities for the pharmaceutical industry and private and public sectors.
He is also an advisor to various Rx&D pharmaceutical companies on
pharmaco-economics, clinical trials, and managed care issues.
Steve holds an appointment at the University of Toronto, Leslie Dan Faculty
of Pharmacy and instructs pharmacy students at the University in health
management issues. He is also a coordinator for the Doctor of Pharmacy
and Industrial Pharmacy Residency Programs at the Leslie Dan Faculty of
Pharmacy.
His previous experiences include positions as Associate Director of Pharmaceutical
Services at Saskatoon City Hospital, Clinical Assistant Professor of Pharmacy
at the University of Saskatchewan, and as Director of Pharmacy Services
and Clinical Lecturer at Kingston General Hospital and Queen’s University
School of Medicine. Dr. Semelman is currently on the Editorial Advisory
Board for the Canadian Journal of Hospital Pharmacy, a reviewer for a
number of refereed journals, and a trustee for the Canadian Society of
Hospital Pharmacy (CSHP) Foundation for Education and Research.
He is a member and Vice Chair of the Canadian Council on Integrated Healthcare,
the Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists, the American Society of
Health-Systems Pharmacists, the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy, the
Canadian Pharmacists Association, and the Ontario and Saskatchewan Pharmacists
Associations.
He has been president of both the Saskatchewan and Ontario branches of
CSHP and held other positions within CSHP as well. He has received awards
for and published numerous articles on clinical pharmacy and managed care
issues. Dr. Semelman holds Bachelors degrees in Arts and Sciences and
Pharmacy from the University of Rhode Island, a Doctor of Pharmacy from
the University of Minnesota and a certificate in Health Services Administration
from the University of Ottawa.
Steve lives in Oakville, Ontario with his wife, also a pharmacist, and
his two children. |
